ugly is irutsa (revisited)

irutsairutsa = ugly (adjective) (some things Google found for "irutsa": a rare term; some sort of East African tribal ceremony connected with married life; user names)

Word derivation for "ugly" :
Basque = itsusi, Finnish = ruma
Miresua = irutsa

My previous Miresua conlang word for "ugly" was "rutsa". I added the letter I, which there are two of in the Basque word. My change makes this word more unusual, hence less likely to be anyone's name. Also I get a 6-letter word, which is good. I tend to have too many 5-letter words.

My definition of "irutsa" as "ugly" in Miresua is not intended to be a comment on anyone or anything named irutsa. I mean no disrespect. I'm merely defining a adjective in my made-up conlang language, and even fantasy languages need some unflattering words.

ten is mykar (revisited)

mykar = ten (number) (adjective) (some things Google found for "mykar": an uncommon to rare term; Mykar is the name of a used car dealer in NSW, Australia; an unusual last name; an rare masculine first name; user names; a World of Warcraft character)

Word derivation for "ten"
Basque = hamar, Finnish = kymmenen
Miresua = mykar

My previous Miresua conlang word for ten was myknar. I dropped the N. That KN consonant combination was too odd. This makes my Miresua word less than average length of the Basque and the Finnish words, but that's okay. The Basque word for ten is also five letters long.

This Miresua conlang word has been changed. The word for ten is now hamen.

nine is erdenisä (revisited)

erdenisä = nine (number) (adjective) (some things Google found for "erdenisa": a rare term; possibly an unusual feminine first name; user name)

Word derivation for "nine"
Basque = bederatzi, Finnish = yhdeksän
Miresua = erdenisä

My previous Miresua conlang word for nine was erendisä. This is a minor change. I shifted the D to be the third letter, because D is the third letter in both the Basque and Finnish words.

This Miresua conlang word has been changed. The word for nine is now dereksä.

four is lunja (revisited)

lunja = four (number) (adjective) (some things Google found for "lunja": an uncommon term; an unusual last name; user names; a rare feminine first name; Maza i Lunja is the Serbian title for the cartoon movie Lady and the Tramp; Lunja is a 90's EuroDance group)

Word derivation for "four"
Basque = lau, Finnish = neljä
Miresua = lunja

My previous Miresua conlang word for four was julna. I changed this word to begin with the common letter from the Basque and Finnish words. The same letters are used, merely shuffled around. Also I got rid of that odd LN consonant combination. I think that I was trying too hard to make this word start with J.

This Miresua conlang word has been changed. The word for four is now nelu.

14 March 2010

eight is kasetzi (revisited)

kasetzi = eight (number) (adjective) (some things Google found for "kazetzi": a very rare, nearly unique term; appears on a webpage that may be gobbledygook; similar word "kaseti" seems to mean "cassette" (as in cassette tape) in Swahili)

Word derivation for "eight"

Miresua = kasetzi

My previous Miresua conlang word for eight was zekasti. I moved the letters around so that my Miresua word starts like the Finnish word and ends like the Basque word.

This Miresua conlang word has been changed. The word for eight is now kahetzi.

clean is gardas

gardas = clean (adjective) (some things Google found for "gardas": an uncommon term; an unusual last name; user names; similarily named Garda's Italian restaurant in Ford City, PA; means "stall" in Lithuanian; means "watch over, look after, guard" in Esperanto; means "garter" in Welsh; seems to mean something in Turkish; name of a town in Norway)

Word derivation for "clean" :
Basque = garbi, Finnish = puhdas
Miresua = gardas

When I have a common letter, such as A in this case, I usually use that letter once. Making this word, I used an A from each the Basque word and the Finnish word. This doesn't break any of my so-called rules. Besides, I like the look of this combination.

This Miresua conlang word has been changed. The word for clean is now gurda.

06 March 2010

dirty is zikain

zikainzikain = dirty (adjective) (some things Google found for "zikain": a rare term; name of a World of Warcraft character; possibly a last name; part of a user name)

Word derivation for "dirty" (unclean) :
Basque = zikin, Finnish = likainen
Miresua = zikain

The Basque and Finnish words are strangely similar, there are four letters in common. That's unusual.

My word definition should not be seen as a comment about people and things called "zikain". I have nothing against anyone or anything named "zikain". This is merely a word in my made-up, conlang language.

02 March 2010

sour is garpan

garpan = sour (adjective) (some things Google found for "garpan": an uncommon term; an unusual last name; user names; GARPAN is an acronym for Gateway-Assisted Inter-PAN Routing; Garpan & Co CV is an automotive parts company in Jakarta; Garpan Tri Askindo PT is an adhesive and glue company in Jakarta; name of a town in Nepal)

Word derivation for "sour" (taste):
Basque = garratz, Finnish = hapan

There's a total of 4 vowels in the Basque and Finnish words, and all vowels are A.

This Miresua conlang word has been changed. The word for "sour" is now "pangar".
